Current PDP Leaders Are Undertakers – Fayose

Former Governor of Ekiti State,  Mr Ayo Fayose has said that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the current National Working Committee (NWC) of the party as undertakers who have come to bury the former ruling party.

He said the party has now become a shadow of it former self due to internal crises plaguing it, leadership failure, lack of ideological focus as well as selfish interest.

Fayose who stated this in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday while speaking to newsmen on the crisis rocking the party added that the opposition party is presently in a state of terminal comatose without sign of political survival.

The former governor posited that the  damage allegedly done by Amb. Umar Damagum and his allies to the party has left it in a near irreversible hopeless situation.

He stressed  that the party has lost its soul and direction with some of the leaders and the current National Working Committee (NWC) acting as “undertakers” superintending over its burial.

According to him, “There is no hope of PDP coming back for now. Even the captains of the ship are jumping from one bed to another. Who will hold the party together? The current NWC are undertakers who have come to bury the PDP. The Governors are leaving, leaders are defecting. Where are the pillars holding the party?

“The PDP is in comatose, under intensive life support. Until someone responds to treatment, you can’t say there’s hope. But as it is now, there’s no sign of life,” he said.

The PDP chieftain explained that the suspension of the party’s national chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, and the emergence of Alhaji Mohammed Abdurahman as the acting chairman marks another round of  crisis within the party, urging leadership of the party to something urgent to save PDP from total collapse and  permanent political irrelevance.

Accusing Damagum of bulldozing his way into the office and running the party aground, he  described his suspension as “long overdue and good riddance to bad rubbish”.

“Damagum caused so much confusion everywhere. He was incompetent and manipulated the process to become chairman. His suspension is in order, and I can assure you that he will go the way of Iyorchia Ayu,” .

The former governor hailed the emergence of Abdulrahman, urging him to work towards uniting the aggrieved members, conducting state congresses as ordered by the courts, and organised national convention in strict compliance with party constitution.

“The party needs a leader who  can reunite everybody at this particular time. You never can tell. You can find a doctor in Abdurahman who is willing to turn the table around for the party. But as it stands, the PDP is in terminal comatose without hope of survival.”

While  pointing  out that the present  condition of the party could be likened to that of a patient on life support,  which may may soon die he said something extra ordinary needed to be done to bring life to it.
