The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, has called on officers and men of the Command to intensify efforts toward faster cargo clearance, improved revenue generation, and stronger trade facilitation at the nation’s busiest port.
Oshoba made the call during the Command’s monthly parade held on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, at the Apapa Area Command headquarters in Lagos, where he reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to efficiency, professionalism and anti-smuggling operations.
The Area Controller stressed the need for officers to block revenue leakages through effective monitoring and timely operational interventions across terminals, while ensuring that legitimate trade is not delayed.
“Officers must protect the reputation of the Service. That is why any delay by any officer concerning any consignment will not be tolerated. Even at the gates. If a consignment is duly exited, there should be no delay at the gates,” he stated.
He further urged officers to remain professional and accessible in their engagement with stakeholders, noting that seamless interaction with port users is critical to achieving the Command’s mandate.
“You must make yourself accessible to our stakeholders and we must avoid actions capable of tarnishing the good image of the Service and the good work being done by the CGC and members of his management. We should not be seen as slugs in the wheels of progress,” Oshoba added.
While emphasizing vigilance against smuggling, the CAC warned officers against misconduct, laxity, and improper dressing, insisting that discipline remains central to operational effectiveness.
He also charged officers to step up surveillance efforts against illicit drugs and prohibited items entering the country through the port corridors.
Highlight of the parade was the recognition of outstanding officers and units for exceptional performance across various categories.
Assistant Comptroller of Customs Ismail Mohammed emerged as the Most Outstanding Officer of the Month, while CSC Augustine Ondoma, ASCI Bukola Olaleye, and IC Olalekan Salawu were recognized for professionalism, innovation, and punctuality respectively.

In the same vein, Officers of APM Terminal received the Excellence Award on Enforcement, while Officers of ECO SUPPORT Terminal were honoured for Excellence in Revenue Generation.

Oshoba explained that the award scheme was introduced to promote hard work, healthy competition, and improved service delivery across all units of the Command.
