The Ogun II Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has uncovered four manufacturing companies operating in Ogun State without paying the statutory Excise Duties to the government.

The command also announced that it generated a total sum of N4.627 billion as revenue from Excise Duties between September and October 2023.

Comptroller Olusola Alade, the Area Controller, revealed this during a press conference at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta, the state capital, where he briefed journalists about activities of his command for the last quarter of the 2023 fiscal year.

He reiterated the core mandates of the command, which include revenue generation through Excise Duty payments, trade facilitation, and securing national economic policies.

Alade explained that the NCS’ monitoring teams were reinvigorated to ensure proper functionality for the revenue drive, leading to the discovery of four unregistered factories: Glamour Foods & Consult, Abraham & Sarah Beverages, Cafro Group of Company, and Sprout & Kings. He stressed that these companies are currently under different stages of registration with the federal government.

On revenue generation, the Area Controller stated that the command realized a total of N4,627,054,451.69 in two months, a 24.8% increase compared to the same period in 2022. He emphasized that the command adopted a “sustained intelligence reconnaissance, effective monitoring and robust stakeholders’ engagement” approach to achieve this increase.

Alade further stated that the revenue generated for November is still under collation at the Federal Ministry of Finance. He assured continued efforts to improve collections through cooperation with other units of the Service.

“We will continue to dialogue, engage and sensitise the local and business communities while discharging our statutory responsibilities of enforcing compliance with government’s fiscal policies,” he stated.
