A Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur, has been found dead in a hotel room in Katsina metropolis of Katsina State under circumstances that have sparked investigation.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Murjani Hotel in Katsina. According to reports, the hotel staff discovered the officer’s lifeless body around 8:30 a.m. and immediately alerted authorities on the fateful day.
Sources at the hotel said empty sachets of suspected substances were recovered from the waste basket in the hotel room.
Three women, namely Khadija Ali (34) of Dutsin Amare Quarters, Katsina; Aisha Lawal (30) of Ingawa Local Government Area of the State, and Hafsat Yusuf (22) of Brigade Quarters, Kano, were reportedly at the hotel room with the deceased during the time of the incident.
It was gathered that Khadija and Aisha spent the night with the officer, while Hafsat later joined them and also lodged at the same facility.
The deceased’s body was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Katsina, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
The Nigeria Customs Service, Katsina State Command through its Public Relations Officer, Isah Bello, confirmed the death of the offcer but denied report of his death in a hotel room, saying that, “that’s what we are hearing from the people, but for us he was just dead.”
