The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has announced that the Nigeria Customs Service has exceeded its revenue projections for the first half of 2025, collecting approximately N3.7 trillion in duties and levies—surpassing targets by nearly 12 per cent.
This achievement marks a 25 per cent increase compared to last year, signalling strong improvements in revenue mobilisation driven by continued reforms and technology adoption.
Edun disclosed these details during the 63rd quarterly meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board on Tuesday.
He emphasised that this performance underscores the growing efficiency of Customs operations and the impact of ongoing fiscal measures designed to stabilise inflation, improve the exchange rate, and bolster Nigeria’s trade balance and foreign reserves.
“The Customs Service has proven that reforms and technology integration can significantly enhance revenue collection. The N3.7 trillion generated in the first half of this year not only exceeds expectations but also contributes substantially to the Federation Account, supporting budgets at all levels of government,” the minister said.
Edun highlighted the upcoming rollout of the National Single Window project, a flagship initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, set for the first quarter of 2026. This innovative platform will unify all trade-related government agencies on a single digital interface, streamlining import and export processes, reducing bottlenecks, lowering costs, and accelerating cargo clearance.
“The National Single Window will be a legacy project revolutionising Nigeria’s trade landscape. Harnessing digital automation and improving efficiencies will further boost customs revenue and strengthen the nation’s economy,” Edun added.
The minister stressed that the performance was crucial to the federal, state, and local governments, given Customs’ contribution to the federation account.
“The revenue being generated feeds directly into the Federation Account and supports the budget of all tiers of government. With the Single Window initiative fully operational, we expect even greater efficiency and higher returns,” Edun stated.
