Fluminense captain Thiago Silva expressed disappointment following his team’s 0-0 draw against Borussia Dortmund in their opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup at Metlife Stadium yesterday.
Despite dominating large portions of the match, only the impressive goalkeeping of Gregor Kobel prevented Fluminense from securing a victory. Silva was pleased with his team’s performance but believed they deserved more than just a point.
“I’m pleased with our performance,” said Silva in a post-match interview with FIFA. “Given the opportunities we created, I think we deserved a better result. If you’d offered us a draw before the game, we would have taken it, but based on our performance today, I feel we were missing just a goal.”
He further lauded his teammates for their courage against a formidable opponent, asserting, “If there had to be a winner today, I think it would have been Fluminense given everything we created throughout the game. That’s football. You can create chances, but it doesn’t always guarantee a win. Overall, I’m super happy with the performance.”
