The EU-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC II) Programme of International IDEA, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is hosting a “Cybercrime Prevention Summit with the theme: “Alternative to Cybercrimes: Optimising Cyber Skills for National Development.”

The occasion is also being used to launch the EFCC 24/7 Cybercrime Rapid Response Centre (E-CR2C), an EFCC initiative involving multi-agency response to cybercrime threats and incidents in the country.

Communications officer of RoLAC II Programme, International IDEA, Murkthar Suleiman, said in a statement that this one-day summit and E-CR2C launch on October 22, 2024, are crucial anti-corruption measures to address the emerging challenges of the current digital age and thus strengthen anti-corruption reforms in Nigeria.

He said the programme’s specific objectives include further consolidating key reforms in the justice and anti-corruption sectors, reducing gender-based violence, and promoting respect for human rights, especially those of persons with disabilities and other marginalised people in society.

“The ultimate objective here is consolidating Nigeria’s rule of law and anti-corruption reforms.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, established in 2003, is mandated to prevent, investigate, and prosecute economic and financial crimes in Nigeria,” he said.

The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme Phase II is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) in Nigeria.

The RoLAC II Programme aims to enhance the performance, quality, and oversight of Nigeria’s criminal justice system and justice service delivery, promoting transparency, accountability, and effectiveness within the justice sector.
