A partnership between the Czech Republic and Nigeria has opened a new frontier in additive manufacturing with the launch of a 3D printing training and capacity-building programme aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical innovation skills.

The programme, inaugurated in Abuja, is a collaboration between the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Nigeria, Czech-based Prusa Technology and Innov8 Hub. It is expected to train 50 Nigerians in its first phase between July and September, with a possible extension to October.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Nigeria, Mr. Tomáš Výprachtický, said investment in young people remained critical to economic growth, industrial development and job creation.

“Nigeria is encountering many challenges, but at the same time it has huge potential. Most of this potential lies in its people, especially young people. To fully harness this potential, it is necessary to create highly qualified jobs for young people and diversify the Nigerian economy,” he said.

Výprachtický expressed confidence that sustained investments in technology, innovation and human capital would help Nigeria achieve its long-term development goals.

“We are happy and proud that our government and our embassy can make this small contribution to this long-term goal. I am sure Nigeria will succeed,” he added.

Also speaking, the Deputy General Manager of Innov8 Hub, Dr. Deji Ige, said the partnership would accelerate the adoption of 3D printing technology while helping to bridge Nigeria’s skills gap in additive manufacturing.

“3D printing is essential for rapid prototyping, product development, STEAM education, instructional material production and the fabrication of tools used across different industries,” Ige said.

He said the initiative would establish a fabrication centre, provide training and capacity building, and promote innovation, adding that participants would undergo basic, intermediate and advanced training covering design, printer operation, troubleshooting and advanced applications of the technology.

The 3D Printing and Fabrication Centre is expected to promote innovation and expand the use of additive manufacturing across sectors including education, engineering, healthcare and manufacturing.
