Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the invitation and questioning of key political figures, including former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, over the disappearance and alleged killing of activist, Abubakar Idris, widely known as Dadiyata.
Sowore made the demand in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, where he also expressed strong doubts over the sincerity of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to conduct a credible investigation into the case involving high-profile politicians, particularly through the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit.
He, therefore, called for the constitution of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to summon and probe the four former political office-holders alongside a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to provide clarity on the matter.
“Let me state clearly that I do not trust the Nigeria Police Force’s IGP Monitoring Unit to investigate the disappearance and presumed killing of Dadiyata. They cannot be trusted to impartially investigate high-profile politicians and powerful interests who may be connected to this case. Let there be a judicial commission of inquiry!
“They must invite Nasir El-Rufai and Kano State former Governor, @Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje then DSS DG, Yusuf Bichi and then iGP, and possibly former AGF Abubakar Malami, SAN they were involved,” Sowore wrote.
Recall that Dadiyata, a lecturer and outspoken social media commentator based in Kaduna, was abducted from his residence in Kaduna State by unidentified persons, and his whereabouts have remained unknown for nearly seven years.
LEADERSHIP reports that the incumbent Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had on Friday, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Monitoring Unit to investigate a petition seeking a probe into allegations linking two senior police officers to the alleged killing of Dadiyata.
The petition was written by Kano-based lawyer, Abba A. Hikima, who urged police authorities to investigate allegations reportedly made by one Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.
In the petition, Kamarawa was quoted as alleging that the two officers threatened to kill him “as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna.”
