Executive secretary and chief executive officer of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr Emmanuel Jime, has said the declaration of Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano by the minister of transportation, Engr. Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, as a port of origin and destination would go a long way in minimising the hardships encountered by businessmen from the North and beyond.
Jime made the disclosure during the official declaration of the Dala inland dry port which took place at the permanent site in Zawaciki in Kumbotso local government area of Kano State yesterday.
According to him, a shipper in Northern Nigeria needs not go to Lagos any longer to import or export goods, but pass through the Dala inland dry port and his wares would be delivered at his doorsteps henceforth.
He said it was not a hidden thing that all need to know the multiplier effect of travelling from the far North to the southern part of the country for buying and transporting goods. He said apart from the resources one would expend on transporting his goods there is also security risk.
He said; “We are bringing shipping to your doorsteps in the northern part of the country and other neighbouring countries through the Dala Inland Dry Port. Niger Republic and Chad are among other beneficiaries of the project.”
Mr Jime said the port would be for handling, storage and regulatory inspection while it would also be consolidating on the work of other agencies to achieve the desired results.
“I would like to commend the Kano State government under the leadership of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the numerous interventions both financially and other wise that brought about the successes recorded so far in completing the port,” he said.
