Dalung Exaggerated Insecurity In Plateau, Says Group

The Plateau Regeneration Group (PRG) has dismissed recent comments by former minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, describing Plateau State highways as unsafe.

The group insisted that the state remains peaceful, secure and hospitable despite isolated security incidents recorded in some parts of the state.

PRG in  a statement signed by  its spokesperson Pam Datiri and made available to newsmen in Jos yesterday, described the former minister’s remarks as misleading, exaggerated and capable of creating unnecessary fear among residents, investors, and visitors.

It stressed that such statements do not reflect the prevailing security situation in Plateau State.

According to the group, thousands of residents and travellers move freely across major highways in the state on a daily basis without incident.

PRG said while the state has experienced security challenges like other parts of the country, it is wrong to generalise isolated incidents as a reflection of the entire state.

The group maintained that Plateau State remains calm in most parts, with normal economic and social activities ongoing.

It further stated that the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang has continued to prioritise security as a key pillar of governance.

PRG noted that the state government has strengthened collaboration with security agencies operating in the state.

It added that regular security council meetings have improved coordination among security stakeholders.

The group also said community engagement has been enhanced through traditional rulers, youth leaders, and faith-based organisations.

According to PRG, intelligence sharing and early warning mechanisms have improved response to emerging security threats.

It further explained that logistical support provided to security agencies has improved mobility and operational efficiency.

PRG said these combined efforts have contributed to strengthening the security architecture of the state.

The group added that Plateau State remains one of Nigeria’s most peaceful, scenic, and hospitable destinations.

It urged political actors and public commentators to exercise restraint and responsibility in their public statements.

PRG warned that unverified claims could create panic, discourage investment, and undermine ongoing peacebuilding efforts.

The group reaffirmed that Plateau State remains open, peaceful, and safe for residents, visitors, and investors.

It called on all stakeholders to support government and security agencies in sustaining peace across the state.

PRG also urged unity and collective responsibility in addressing security challenges rather than spreading fear or misinformation.

It said the people of Plateau are peaceful, tolerant, and committed to coexistence.

The group reaffirmed its support for ongoing government efforts to consolidate peace and security across the state.
