Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that he has formally committed 25 per cent of his personal wealth to the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) as part of efforts to sustain the newly launched ₦100 billion Annual Education Support Fund.

Speaking at the launch of the programme on Thursday, Dangote said the endowment, already signed off by his children and mother, was designed to ensure the continuity of the Foundation’s work “for generations.”

“The sustainability of this programme, which I expect will run for generations of the Dangote family, is grounded in my formal commitment to allocate 25% of my wealth to my foundation, which is actually currently formalised with my family,” he said.

“I already have an agreement which was drafted to make sure that, yes, my inheritance, my three children, my mother, they have all signed off. When anything happens to me in the event of death, 25% of my wealth will go straight to the foundation.”

Dangote described the new fund as the largest private-sector education intervention in Nigeria’s history. The ₦100 billion annual programme is projected to benefit at least 1.3 million Nigerian students over the next decade through scholarships, infrastructure support, and critical learning resources.

He noted that the initiative marks “a defining moment” for the Foundation and “a significant turning point for education in Nigeria,” stressing that meaningful national development is impossible without strong investment in human capital.

The programme underscored Dangote’s long-term commitment to social impact, with education now positioned as a major priority in the Foundation’s philanthropic agenda.
