Veteran Hollywood actor Danny Glover has revealed that he is living with Alzheimer’s disease.
The 79-year-old Lethal Weapon star shared the heartbreaking update during an emotional sit-down with journalist Lester Holt on NBC’s Today show.
Glover said he was diagnosed not long after receiving an honorary Oscar in 2022 and admitted he knows life will gradually change as the disease progresses.
“I could live with it, in a sense,” he said, adding, “I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing.”
Despite the diagnosis, the Emmy-nominated actor said he is drawing strength from his family, whom he praised for having his back throughout the journey.
His daughter, Mandisa Glover, said it was important for her father to share his story himself, rather than allow speculation to define his narrative.
Glover, celebrated for iconic roles in films including Lethal Weapon and The Colour Purple, also reflected on his legacy, saying he hopes to continue inspiring younger generations to embrace justice and positive change.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, affecting memory, thinking and behaviour. According to the World Health Organisation, more than 55 million people worldwide are living with dementia, with nearly 10 million new cases recorded every year.
