Speaking at the event, Katsina State governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting technical and vocational education as a key strategy for tackling youth unemployment.

Governor Radda emphasised the importance of practical, hands-on learning that directly addresses the needs of industries and businesses.

“Our approach ensures that individuals are not only prepared for the demands of the job market but are also empowered to contribute meaningfully to economic growth and development.

“By integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world application, we are cultivating a workforce that is both competent and adaptable,” the governor said.

Unveiling his administration’s education roadmap, Governor Radda announced the upgrade of the Youth Craft Village and the establishment of 10 additional skill acquisition centres across the state to empower young people with relevant skills.

“We are taking significant steps to rebuild, modernise, and expand skills acquisition across the state. These proactive strategies are designed to equip our youth with practical and industry-relevant expertise, positioning Katsina for a more prosperous future,” he stated.

Governor Radda also highlighted ongoing reforms in the education sector, including the construction and rehabilitation of schools, the recruitment of thousands of new teachers, and the clearing of a backlog of bursary payments to tertiary institution students from 2021 to date.

Further reflecting his government’s commitment to higher education, he announced the acquisition of a permanent site for the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences in Funtua.

“Our government remains resolutely dedicated to supporting all federal tertiary institutions in Katsina State, including the esteemed Federal Polytechnic, Daura. We are committed to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and holistic development,” he added.

Governor Radda commended Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura for pledging to build a clinic within the polytechnic in partnership with the state government.

He also revealed discussions with the chairman of TETFund to address the institution’s funding challenges, assuring that interventions would soon commence.

In his remarks, Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura urged community leaders and stakeholders to support the polytechnic to ensure its continued growth and success.

Earlier, welcoming guests, the rector of Federal Polytechnic Daura, Professor Aliyu Mamman, praised Governor Radda’s leadership and hands-on approach to governance:

“We are profoundly honoured by His Excellency’s presence and continued support. His humility, vision, and commitment to progress have inspired us all,” the rector noted.

Professor Mamman announced the graduation of 408 students across 11 departments, a testimony to the institution’s steady growth.

He also highlighted the polytechnic’s expansion to six academic schools offering 32 programmes to meet the country’s evolving industrial and technological needs.

The convocation ceremony attracted top government officials, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe and the Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk.
