The sons of two late members of the Kano State House of Assembly emerged victorious in the by-elections conducted on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing seats earlier held by their fathers.

The candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad and Aliyu Nabil Daneji, clinched the Ungogo and Kano Municipal constituencies, respectively, defeating eight other contenders in the exercise.

The by-elections were held to fill vacancies created by the deaths of the former lawmakers representing Ungogo Constituency, Aminu Sa’ad, and Kano Municipal Constituency, Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who reportedly passed away on the same day.

Announcing the results for Kano Municipal, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj, declared Aliyu Nabil Daneji winner after polling 7,484 votes.

He defeated his closest challenger, Shehu Ishaq Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), who secured 105 votes, while other candidates trailed behind.

The declaration followed the collation of results from all affected polling units in the constituency.

In Ungogo Constituency, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi, declared Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad winner after he gained 8,975 votes defeating his closest rival, Shua’ibu Hashimu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), who polled 54 votes.

Prof. Abdullahi stated that the process was conducted peacefully and in accordance with electoral guidelines, commending political parties, security agencies and voters for their cooperation throughout the exercise.
