The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to declare a state of emergency on rural roads across the state.
This follows a motion moved by the member representing the Minjibir constituency, Hon. Abdul Alhamid during Monday’s plenary presided over by the speaker, Hon. Ismail Falgore.
According to him, more than 90 percent of the motions moved by the 10th Assembly on road construction concern rural roads, hence the need for the government to make rural road infrastructure the third priority project after education and health.
While commending governor Abba Yusuf for providing the dividends of democracy for the people, he said that as a matter of urgency, he should also declare rural road infrastructure the third priority of his government.
“Very soon the rainy season would set in and when these roads are not given priority the people in those areas would likely be cut off.”
He, therefore, sought the support of the house to call on the state government on the matter.
Seconding the motion, members representing Doguwa and Bebeji constituencies, Salisu Mohammad and Hon Aliyu Mohammad, respectively, emphasized the economic importance of rural roads and how they would enhance the value chain in the agricultural sector and promote the well-being of rural dwellers.
Hon. Aliyu further added that, a community needs nothing less than five rural roads to thrive.
Meanwhile, during the plenary, which was the first in 2025, seven bills scaled through the first reading, which was taken by the clerk of the house, Bashir Diso.
The bills are the Kano State Censorship Board Amendment Bill 2025, Kano State Forensic Laboratory Bill 2025, Kano State Information and Communication Technology Agency Bill 2025, and Kano State Social Protection Agency Bill 2025.
Others are the Kano State Motorcycle Administration Bill 2025, the Kano State Digitalization And E-Governance Enhancement Bill 2025 and the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority Bill 2025.
