The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has commenced operational assessment of troops and combat facilities as part of the efforts to strengthen military operations in Nigeria.
The assessment team, led by Brig-Gen. M.S. Adamu, was at the 6 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of “Operation Whirl Stroke” (OPWS) in Jalingo, Taraba State, to evaluate operational activities, combat readiness and welfare of the troops under the Brigade to ensure the effectiveness.
During the visit, Adamu said the exercise was in line with the Command’s Philosophy of the Chief of Defence Staff, who prioritises joint operations, professionalism and mission-oriented military engagements in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
He said the DHQ remains committed to ensuring that troops in different theatres Nigeria were motivated, disciplined and adequately equipped to confront emerging security threats.
He said the Armed Forces of Nigeria had continued to depend heavily on the resilience, discipline and sacrifice of military personnel in the ongoing fight against criminality and insecurity.
“The objective of this assessment is to evaluate operational and combat readiness as well as ensure that troops remain motivated and adequately equipped to execute their tasks effectively,” he stated.
Brig-Gen. Adamu charged the troops of the Brigade to remain steadfast, professional, and committed to achieving the military’s strategic objectives, and assured them that the Defence Headquarters would continue to provide the necessary support for operational success.
The team leader also commended the commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Chukwuemeka Akaliro, for maintaining security within the Brigade’s area of responsibility.
Responding, Akaliro expressed appreciation to the team for the visit, describing it as timely and significant in enhancing operational efficiency and combat preparedness.
He said the Brigade would sustain its operational momentum in Taraba State and other areas under its coverage despite the prevailing logistical challenges.
The Brigade commander highlighted some of the constraints affecting operations and assured the team that proactive measures were being taken to address them, to improve effectiveness in the field.
