The Delta state government has approved a budget proposal of N936 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.
The state commissioner for Economic Planning, Sunny Ekedayen, flanked by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Charles Aniagwu and Commissioner for Directorate of Riverine Infrastructural Development, Chief Ebikeme Clark, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council, (SEC), meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
According to him, the budget proposal which would be transmitted to the State House of Assembly is made up of recurrent, N348, 717, 758, 635, representing 37.25 per cent of the budget and Capital expenditure, N587,361,060, 084 representing 62.75 per cent of the budget.
“By way of comparison, the budget proposal for 2025 is 29.12 per cent bigger than that of the current year 2024.
“Emphasis, as always, is on the focus areas; agriculture, micro, small, and medium enterprises, youths and tourism, entertainment, social safety and poverty alleviation, physical infrastructure and education.
Earlier, the state commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza warned contractors whose projects have stayed with them for the past one year and refused to mobilise to site this dry season to have a rethink.
While maintaining that such projects will not only be determined, he said there is zero tolerance to such delays
“We cannot wait for any contractor to mobilise to site as it pleases them. Every project has the advantage of this dry season and every serious contractor should mobilise to site ” Osuoza stated.
