The Delta State House of Assembly (DSHA), has vowed to deepen its commitment to people-oriented governance in the state.

Speaking on prospects and expectations in 2026, the chief press secretary to the speaker, Nkem Nwaeke stated that the 8th Delta Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Dennis Guwor, holds great promise for a productive legislature and a more prosperous Delta State in 2026.

He said this new year offers a renewed opportunity for robust lawmaking, effective oversight, and constructive engagement with the executive and other stakeholders for the overall development of the state.

He said the Christmas and New Year recess provided members the opportunity to consult widely with constituents, review policy priorities, and reflect on the socio-economic realities facing the people.

Nwaeke maintained that as plenary resumes, the Assembly is poised to translate the engagements with the people into concrete legislative actions that address pressing issues such as economic growth, job creation, security, infrastructure development, education, healthcare delivery, and social welfare.

He said, “In 2026, the Assembly is expected to prioritize the passage of critical bills that will strengthen institutions, improve transparency, and enhance service delivery.

“Legislative interventions aimed at boosting internally generated revenue, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises, and creating an enabling environment for investment are anticipated to feature prominently in the House’s agenda.”

The CPS added that under the pragmatic leadership of the speaker, oversight functions will remain a core focus, saying that the Assembly will continue to ensure accountability in the implementation of government policies and projects.

Nwaeke emphasized that oversight is crucial in guaranteeing that public resources are judiciously utilized and government programmes deliver tangible benefits to citizens across the state.
