Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education and Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) are at crossroads over redeployment of principals and teachers across the state.
While PPEB redeployed some principals and teachers, the commissioner for secondary education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, reversed the redeployments on the ground that she was neither aware nor consulted before the exercise was embarked upon.
The commissioner while speaking on issues concerning the welfare of principals and teachers in the state said she was totally embarrassed about the purported redeployment without the consent of her ministry which oversees the affairs of PPEB that carried out the exercise.
According to her, there are procedures to follow in the redeployment of teachers in the state, warning that any posting made without due process would be investigated and reversed with immediate effect.
“Those behind the rumoured transfer of teachers should desist forthwith as appropriate measures would be taken against them if indicted.
“All teachers and principals in the state public secondary schools should remain where they are as the ministry did not authorize any posting,” she said.
Meanwhile, while the dust raised over the deployment was yet to settle, the State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), has warned teachers not to resist transfers as such act could lead to dismissal from service.
The executive chairman of the board, Hon Samuel Mariere gave the warning while addressing education stakeholders in Udu and Ughelli south local government areas in continuation of his visits to 25 local government areas in the state.
Mariere stated that teachers resisting postings or transfers was retrogressive, stressing that the board would not allow any individual or group to truncate government’s efforts to reposition education system in the state.
The SUBEB chairman appealed to the various stakeholders to partner with the state government to improve quality and standard of education.
