The Delta State Ministry of Technical Education has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Principal of the Sapele Technical College, Sapele, for turning the school land to farming and wood milling activities.
The shocking discovery was made by a monitoring team going round schools to assess compliance with the resumption of second term academic activities.
The Ministry, according to the report, further recalled that the affected Principal, Mrs. Rosemary Itawansa, had on several occasions been verbally warned against misconduct in the administration of the school but failed to make the necessary corrections.
It also cited a previous directive issued via a letter dated January 19, 2024 (Ref. No. MTE/SQA/82/33), posting the Principal to Model Technical College, Obiaruku, which was reportedly disobeyed.
“Consequently, and in line with disciplinary procedures, the Ministry has approved the redeployment of the Principal from Sapele Technical College to the Ministry of Technical Education, Asaba, for further posting.
“The principal is directed to hand over to the most senior teacher and resume duties at the Ministry on Monday, January 19, 2026,” the report stated.
Other anomalies, according to the team, were that at about 7.26 am when the team arrived the school premises, there was no presence of any security man at the school gate, and that it was bushy and untidy environment with farming and wood milling activities taking place.
Others were reports of collection of illegal levies from students, aiding and abetting of ‘ghosting’ among NYSC members posted to the institution and administrative incompetence.
