Delta State Government has terminated the contract for the rehabilitation of the Warri Township Stadium for apparent lack of capacity to deliver the project by the contractor
The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, disclosed this yesterday while briefing journalists on some of the decisions reached at the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Giving reasons for the termination of the stadium project, the commissioner for works (rural roads), Reuben Izeze, said, the contractor breached all contractual agreements and ought to have been sued but for the magnanimity of the governor, he was allowed to go.
“The contract is supposed to have been completed and delivered to the state government in 24 months. Governor Oborevwori had stated that the designs for the new stadium were currently ongoing and would be one of the best in the country when completed
“In February, 2024, Governor Oborevwori while receiving on victory and solidarity visit, members of the National Assembly from the state, led by Nicholas Mutu, at the Government House, Asaba, had promised that his administration was planning to revamp the Warri Township Stadium into a world class sports facility” lzeze disclosed
Osuoza also said that the state government approved the upward review of contract price of some ongoing projects across the state, due to rising cost of construction materials.
