The first lady of Warri North, a local government area in Delta state, Mrs. Omasan Ashima, donated medical materials, drugs, and other items to special patients with sickle cell anaemia.
She donated them on Wednesday at the General Hospital, Koko, the headquarters of the council area. She said the gesture ensured equitable access to healthcare services, especially in communities.
She encouraged the patient to keep their dreams and hopes alive by effectively managing the disease to live more productive lives and contribute to developing the state and the nation’s economy.
Mrs. Ashima described her visit to the hospital as a continuation of her regular intervention, which is an integral part of the pet project and program of the wife of the state Governor, Deaconess Oborevwori, through her Foundation. The program is also currently being carried out by the wife of the president, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu.
“We are here to support sickle cell anaemia patients. The government of Warri North, Delta State and Nigeria is committed to improving health outcomes, reducing suffering and promoting social justice and equity.
“Our visit today will help reduce health care costs and give you all more reasons to be happy. You Matter Charity Foundation is a place where everyone is somebody, which prompted us to visit the special children and identify with them by providing their recommended medications.
While receiving her, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. M. Mukoro, commended the first lady for her efforts in constantly providing support to those who needed it the most.
He called on others to emulate her by supporting those who needed it the most.
One of the patients, Miss Tolu, appreciated the first lady and thanked her for the show of love and magnanimity she showed them.
She, however, prays that God Almighty give the chairperson and her husband higher opportunities to do more.
