Labour Party (LP) in Delta State has called for cancellation of the recent council poll in Aniocha south local government area of the state.

The party has filed a petition at the Delta State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, citing “substantial non-compliance with the provisions of the electoral act” as the basis for their petition.

It faulted the result where DSIEC declared Jude Chukwunweike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner.

In the petition, the LP named the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), Hon. Jude Chukwunweike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the first, second, and third respondents, respectively.

“We argue that the election did not occur in nearly all DSIEC wards in Aniocha south, leaving thousands of eligible voters unable to exercise their franchise due to the absence of voting materials at their units. None of our agents signed the purported result sheets that DSIEC allegedly falsified to declare the PDP candidate winner,” the LP said.
