n a startling revelation that underscores the shadows lurking behind familiar faces, the Delta State Police Command has apprehended two men accused of unimaginable crimes—one a notorious jail escapee, the other a pastor. Their alleged offences, ranging from murder to sexual assault, have sent shockwaves through communities across the state.
Michael Ezenwai, an offender with a history of violent offences, was arrested in Agbor for the alleged rape and murder of Uwaila Omorzua, a 200-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). Uwaila’s life was brutally cut short in 2020 while she was at a church to study—a place meant to provide solace, now tainted by tragedy.
Ezenwai’s criminal record is notorious. He had previously escaped from Oko Correctional Centre during the EndSARS 2020 jailbreak and is suspected to be a serial offender. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that the arrest followed a tip-off on 24 October 2025, when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor received information that Ezenwai was attempting to sell a mobile phone.
Police swiftly mobilised to intercept him. Upon questioning, Ezenwai claimed the phone came from Libya. But when the device rang, the caller identified it as belonging to her sister, Christabel Egedefe. A subsequent visit to Christabel’s residence revealed the unthinkable—she had been murdered.
Under further interrogation, Ezenwai confessed to killing the 26-year-old woman during a robbery at her apartment on 23 October 2025. He admitted that she resisted relinquishing her motorcycle keys, prompting him to take her life while also stealing her phones. Initially, he attempted to implicate the victim’s father, but later retracted the statement, admitting it was a deliberate lie.
In a separate but equally shocking case, Pastor Daniel Ololo of Omega Prophetic Prayer Ministry in Sapele was arrested for alleged defilement, rape, and sexual assault of church members. The arrest followed a petition lodged with the Delta State Police on 13 October 2025, prompting Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda to order a full investigation.
Police investigations revealed that Ololo allegedly exploited his position as a spiritual leader to manipulate vulnerable members, using fake prophecies to coerce them into sexual acts under the pretext of “deliverance.” Disturbingly, the pastor is accused of sexually assaulting three sisters of the same mother, with the youngest victim reported to be only 17 years old.
Both suspects remain in custody as police investigations continue, sending a clear message that no one, regardless of status or position, is above the law.
These arrests, chilling as they are, underscore a deeper societal challenge: the betrayal of trust, whether in the sanctuary of a church or the perceived safety of a community.
