An engineer based in the United States, Justin Obinna, has expressed support for Dr. Austin Orette’s potential bid for the Delta South Senatorial District, citing what he described as the need for accountable and reform-driven leadership.

Obinna, who works across Texas and Louisiana, said his position followed what he called a careful consideration of the options ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement posted on his social media handle on Sunday, the member of the American Society of Civil Engineers noted that issues such as accountability, adherence to the rule of law, and concerns over police conduct remain critical to governance in Nigeria.

LEADERSHIP Check gathered that Orette is a relatively new entrant in the Delta South senatorial race, where he is expected to contend with established political figures, including Senator Ned Nwoko and former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Obinna argued that leadership at the senatorial level should reflect a commitment to institutional reform and public trust, adding that Orette’s background in the medical field and years of professional experience abroad could shape his approach to public service.

“Leadership at this time requires individuals who can combine professional competence with a sense of responsibility to the people,” he said.

While acknowledging that the race is expected to attract multiple contenders, he urged political stakeholders across the Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, and Urhobo communities to prioritise candidates they believe can address governance and security challenges in the district.

He further stressed that the 2027 elections present an opportunity for voters in Delta South to focus on issues of justice, institutional integrity, and effective representation.
