As the world marks International Women’s Day, the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly (DSHA), Hon Dennis Guwor, has suggested greater involvement of women in nation building.

He said such was capable of engendering peace and development in the society.

The speaker noted that this year’s celebration which focuses on “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”, with emphasis on tackling women’s economic disempowerment, was apt and a call for more attention in that regard.

While stressing the need for enhanced gender friendly environments that would encourage more females to excel in their chosen careers, the speaker acknowledged the remarkable achievements of some Nigeria women in global affairs.

Guwor, who is the national treasurer, Conference of Speakers of the States Houses of Assembly, stressed the need for more policies and programmes that would promote women’s participation in every aspect of human endeavour.

In a statement by his chief secretary, Mr Nkem Nwaeke, the speaker rejoiced with the womenfolk, particularly Delta women on the historic global celebration.

“Women should never be distracted in their resolve to promote a peaceful and more prosperous Delta State.

“MORE agenda of the state government has a lot in stock for the women in line with the governor’s commitment to ensuring that no segment of the society is left out in his all-inclusive governance,” Guwor said.
