The parent who allegedly flogged Ufah to death was identified as one Nweke Nnajiofor, a butcher and hails from Enugu State.

The deceased teacher, Ufah was until his death a teacher at Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Alihame, Agbor.

He met his untimely death on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the school compound when the accused now in police custody stormed the school to retaliate the punishment meted to his son, one of the students who scaled the school fence to go and drink some palm wine stolen from an old man nearby.

The protesting teachers, marched on the streets of Agbor metropolis, calling for justice for the slain teacher as well as for their protection by the state government from errant students and their parents who frequently attack them.

Addressing journalists during the protest, the NUT chairman in Ika South, Comrade Isaac Arimokwu, said that his members were aggrieved over the sudden death of their colleague, Ufah, who was sent to early grave by Mr Nweke Nnajiofor.

Arimokwu described the late Ufah as a committed member of NUT and one of the best Physics teachers in the local government and called on government to ensure justice for Ufah.

Ika South NUT publicity secretary, Comrade Matthew Chima Anyia, popularly known as, Chimex stated that “cases of attacks against teachers have gone roof top with the death of Ufah”.

Meanwhile, Delta State governor Sheriff Oborevwori has condemned the murder of Ufah.

He warned parents and guardians against taking illegal actions against teachers for correcting their erring children and wards, adding that such delinquent actions remained intolerable in schools across the state.

“As a state government, we frown seriously at parents going to bully teachers for genuinely meting out disciplinary measures against students for bad behaviour such as is alleged in the extant case.

“I have directed the state police command to investigate the case properly and bring the perpetrators to book,” Oborevwori said.
