A leading governorship aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi has asserted that only good governance can guarantee democracy in the country.

Babayemi, who pointed out that states and local governments were the closest tiers of government to the grassroots, added that they were expected to be more responsive in their areas due to their closeness to the people through the dispensation of good governance to them.

The governorship hopeful who noted these in his congratulatory message to Nigerians on this year’s Democracy Day said this could only be achieved through a collaborative effort of those at the helm of affairs and stakeholders in the country.

“The humongous funds currently being made available to states and local governments in the country by the administration of President Bola Tinubu through federal allocation should be spent on projects that will significantly impact the people, especially at the grassroots.

These monies are not free funds that must be filtered away,” he cautioned.

He commended Tinubu for working assiduously to improve Nigeria through various laudable reforms. Babayemi urged leaders and stakeholders at all levels of government to enshrine good governance in their plans.

“Good governance is what the people deserve; it’s the only thing that can enhance the quality of living of our people and at the same time, lessen all forms of agitations. It’s the antidote to our societal problems. That’s why one is urging state and local governments to ensure quality deliveries to the people,” Babayemi maintained.
