A pro-All Progressives Congress (APC) group, the Progressive Foundational Movement (PFM), has cautioned the new governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, not to wipe out the laudable landmark achievements of immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
The group decried the manner in which the new governor, in less than a week after his assumption of office, demolished beautiful edifices worth billions of naira in the ancient city of Kano.
A statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the spokesman of the PFM, Jamilu Sani, frowned at the brazen way the state government was going about carrying out what it called wanton destruction of public properties without due process.
Sani noted particularly the demolition of Daula Hotel, which according to him, was a Public Private Partnership project between the state and a private company, noting that such action will send a wrong signal to prospective investors.
The statement further said at a time Kano State, which is the commercial nerve centre of northern Nigeria, needed investors to boost its internally generated revenue, instead of wooing investors, the state government was undermining the investing drive of the former government of Ganduje in the state.
It would be recalled that a private firm, Lamash Property Limited, had threatened to sue the Kano State government demanding N10bn compensation over the demolition of Daula Hotel.
“We are taken aback by the reckless demolition exercise ongoing in Kano State, it’s worrisome to see how people are losing their business in the name of demolition. How will you put people, your subjects, into this kind of misery because you hate your processor Ganduje.
“Ganduje as the architect of modern Kano has done his best for the state. We are, however, calling on the elders of the state, particularly governor Yusuf’s political leader and former governor Rabiu Musa kwankwaso to call the Governor to order before it’s too late.
“We want to appeal to Governor Yusuf to focus on his mandate instead of embarking on the mission to destroy Ganduje’s huge footprint in Kano State,” he stated.
