Dep Gov Lauds Delta LG Poll As APC Boycotts Exercise

Delta State deputy governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, has described the local government election held in the state yesterday as rancour-free.
Onyeme while speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Unit 11, Ward 10, Ibabu, Onicha-Ukwuani, Ndokwa west local government area said the PDP remained the party to beat.

He expressed confidence that the rigorous campaign the party had across the state would give it victory. Onyeme added that the victory of the party in the election was not in doubt.

“We are expecting 100 percent of votes for the PDP in this ward. This is the ward people look up to in the local government, we don’t have any fear at all about victory for the PDP.

“I am confident that our party, the PDP will win, other political parties did not engage in any form of campaign and I wonder how other political parties want to get victory.

“PDP has a lot of projects and programs to campaign with whereas the opposition had nothing, so, you can obviously know the outcome,” he said.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress yesterday boycotted the local government election in Warri South local government area.

Chairman of the party in the local government, Mr. Mario Owumi, announced the decision of the party during an interview with newsmen.

“They asked us to bring APC agent, we observed that from yesterday till now the PDP agent did not show up. Till a few hours ago, we saw that the PDP people have been inside the council. They tried four different occasions to intimidate us the opposition party.

“We requested that we want to see the materials, but up till now, they denied us our rights to see the materials. So for us, the APC in Warri South, we are not violent, we don’t want to break any laws. We know that the council belongs to us, we built this council with our money.

“So APC Warri South is boycotting the election for these reasons, the PDP, the DSIEC and some of the security agencies have compromised. We have been here since yesterday, and we have seen what is going on. So at this juncture, we have said we will not go into violence, we will just boycott the election peacefully. We have told our people to go home,” he said.
