Lagos State lawmaker and actor Desmond Elliot has apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his conduct during the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in the state.

Elliot tendered the apology during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other party leaders, where he went on his knees and prostrated before the former Speaker of the House of Representatives in a renewed bid to reconcile with the APC leadership in Lagos.

In a video shared on X on Sunday, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I expressed regret over his actions, saying he might have been misguided during the political dispute. He also pledged to renew his loyalty to the party’s leadership.

“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry. I’m deeply sorry, sir. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don’t be angry, Daddy,” Elliot said.
Gbajabiamila subsequently asked the lawmaker to get up.

The latest apology came months after Elliot first appealed to Gbajabiamila for forgiveness during an appearance on TVC’s Your View. He said any misunderstanding between them was unintentional and described the Chief of Staff as his political mentor.

“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.

He added, “To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way.”

The renewed reconciliation effort follows political tensions surrounding the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis. The dispute reportedly stemmed from disagreements within the Lagos APC over the leadership of the Assembly and was later addressed through interventions by senior party leaders.

Gbajabiamila had previously said intelligence reports linked Elliot to moves surrounding the Assembly speakership tussle, an allegation the lawmaker denied.

Elliot’s latest apology places on record his renewed effort to mend ties with Gbajabiamila and regain the confidence of the APC leadership in Lagos.
