Desmond Matthew Claims 8th Sovereign Trust Golf Title

Desmond Matthew of Ikoyi Club 1938 has emerged victorious in the 8th edition of the Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc Open Golf Tournament.

The three-day event, held at the Ibadan Golf Club, Onireke, saw participation from over 250 amateur golfers representing various clubs across the country.

In the insurance category, Kunle Akinpelu claimed the trophy for the male segment. The Director-General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mrs Abimbola Tiamiyu, was also a participant in the tournament.

Seyi Alaba, Captain of the Ibadan Golf Club, commended Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc for organising a premier golf tournament in Ibadan.

“During the past three days, I was thrilled to witness your company, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, enhancing activities in the state, both commercially and in the sporting arena. You have undoubtedly contributed to the state’s internally generated revenue over this period, and Ibadan acknowledges this. We are grateful to your company and hope that the partnership between Ibadan Golf Club and Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc will continue to be both enduring and beneficial.”

In his closing remarks, Segun Bankole, the representative of the MD/CEO of Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc and Head of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, expressed gratitude to the Club for recognising the organisation as a worthy partner, allowing for a significant platform to showcase the brand within the golfing community across the country.

Participating clubs in the tournament included Sagamu Golf Club, Ekiti Golf Club, Tiger Golf Club, Ikoyi Club 1938, Abeokuta Golf Club, Ilorin Golf Club, Dolphin Golf Club, Ikeja Golf Club, Saba Golf Club, Micom Golf and Resort Golf Club, IITA Golf Club, Ogbomosho Golf Club, and the host club, Ibadan Golf Club.
