Billionaire businessman and chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has hailed Super Eagles’ performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinals with the hosts Morocco, saying the Nigeria’s national team gave its all and showed true courage in the encounter.
Taking to his verified social media handles late Wednesday night shortly after the match, which ended 4:2 on penalties in favour of Morocco, the businessman, who earlier promised the Super Eagles mouthwatering financial rewards on winning the match, said he was still going ahead to fulfil the promise of $500,000 reward as a token of appreciation for the team’s ‘remarkable journey and effort’.
LEADERSHIP recalls that shortly after defeating Algeria 2:0 in the 2025 AFCON quarter-final on Saturday, Abdulsamad Rabiu promised to reward the Super Eagles with $500,000 on winning the Wednesday’s semifinals with additional $50,000 for every goal scored, and $1million reward if the Super Eagles go ahead to win the AFCON trophy at the finals. However, it is not to be.
Reacting to the development shortly after the tense semifinal clash, Rabiu went philosophical, saying sometimes, one’s our best efforts don’t bring the outcome hoped for, but the spirit, passion, and unity displayed are what truly matter.
He wrote: “To our brave Super Eagles,
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud. 🇳🇬
“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion, and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration.
“As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfill the pledge of $500,000 USD. This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the joy you have brought to our nation.
“Keep your heads high, Super Eagles – the experience, lessons, and spirit will fuel even greater success next time. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories!”
