An expert, Augustina Okpechi, has emphasised the importance of equipping young women and girls with practical digital skills in today’s rapidly evolving digital world.

Okpechi disclosed this yesterday at a forum in Lagos. She said that as technology continues to reshape industries, economies, and everyday life, the ability to navigate digital tools has become a fundamental requirement for participation and success.

She noted that for many young females, especially in developing regions, gaining these skills is not just an advantage—it is a pathway to independence, empowerment, and inclusion in the global economy.

She added, “Despite growing awareness, a significant gender gap still exists in access to digital education and opportunities. Cultural barriers, limited resources, and a lack of mentorship often prevent girls from exploring careers in technology and innovation.”

Meanwhile, Okpechi, who is also the Project Lead at KSH Foundation, said the foundation has announced the launch of EveryGirl 3.0, the latest edition of its flagship capacity-building programme designed to equip young women and girls in underserved communities with practical digital skills, self-awareness, and access to opportunities within the digital economy.

Okpechi said that, building on the success of previous cohorts, this year’s programme introduces a refined focus under the theme “Building Digital Power.” She explained that this reflects a deeper commitment not only to teaching digital skills but also to empowering participants to think critically, communicate effectively, and position themselves for opportunities in an increasingly digital world.

“EveryGirl 3.0 retains its proven structure, including a two-week virtual learning phase, a five-day in-person immersion experience, and 90 days of group mentorship. This year features an expanded, forward-thinking curriculum covering digital literacy, intellectual development, monetisation, and AI for learning,” she said.
