By Gbodiyan Oluwakemi Karen, , Abuja

A diplomat, Ambassador Shina Fatai Alege, has lamented the gradual collapse of communal values in modern society.

Amb Alege, who said this during the public presentation of his five books in Abuja stressed that the essence of life is to build a community.

“We lost that community, and it is killing us now. We have turned our communities into a crowd.”

Drawing attention to the growing culture of recording tragedies instead of helping victims, he urged Nigerians to return to compassion and human solidarity.

“We must try to ensure that we are kind to everyone. Do not spend time; invest time. Every second of life must count,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, a former Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, described the newly launched books as thought-provoking contributions to national and global discourse.

Represented by Barrister Raji Ahmed, Amosun said the books reflect deep experience, reflection, and the power of storytelling in shaping governance and public understanding.

“Today’s event is more than a celebration of literary achievement. It is a celebration of experience, reflection, and the power of storytelling as a tool for national and global understanding,” he said.

He commended Ambassador Alege for documenting his experiences after decades in diplomatic service, including his role during the evacuation of Nigerians from conflict zones.

Delivering the opening remarks, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, praised Ambassador Alege’s intellectual contributions and described the books as “a remarkable body of work” rooted in lived experience and public service

“This event is not merely a ceremonial gathering; it is, in every sense of it, a celebration of knowledge, experience, and purposeful reflection,” Ariwoola said

The retired jurist said the books collectively address critical issues confronting society today, including leadership, insecurity, crisis management, relationships, and human values.
