Mike Msuega Yawe, one of Nigeria’s most respected broadcasters, has captured decades of on-air experience and commentary on national issues in his new 290-page memoir, Beyond the Airwaves: Memoirs of a Commentator.
The book was launched yesterday, drawing media executives, fellow broadcasters, and loyal listeners to a celebration of a career that has helped shape the nation’s radio landscape.
On behalf of the director-general of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr Mohammed Bulama, the director of Programmes, Ms Msurshima Kighir, described Yawe as “one of the finest in the field,” whose work extended far beyond the studio to touch the hearts of Nigerians across the country.
The memoir, she said, was a tribute not just to Yawe’s career but to the principles that have defined Nigerian broadcasting: discipline, curiosity, and a steadfast commitment to truth.
“Every script read on the radio represents countless untold experiences,” Kighir added, recalling late-night bulletins, last-minute rewrites, and the quiet duty of serving the public through the microphone.
Dr Bulama, through his representative, reaffirmed the FRCN’s role as Africa’s largest radio network and praised Yawe for embodying the values of service and dedication. He reminded guests that while technology evolves, “the heart of broadcasting remains service to the Nigerian people.”
