An Ondo-based legal practitioner, Abayomi Oladire, is currently battling for his life at an undisclosed hospital following an alleged attack on him by his client’s husband, Mr. Kunle Kuteyi.

Oladire claimed that he was attacked with a broken bottle for handling the divorce case between his suspected attacker and his wife, Taibat, at a court in Ondo town, Ondo State.

LEADERSHIP learnt that Kuteyi, who is currently at large, accosted the lawyer on the road and accused him of having an affair with his wife.

The accused claimed that the lawyer was having an affair with his wife, which prompted his wife to file the divorce suit in court.

The matter reportedly generated into an argument, leading to the suspect allegedly stabbing the lawyer several times before fleeing.

Oladire was thereafter rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Narrating his ordeal, the lawyer explained that the suspect’s wife approached him to file for divorce against her husband due to disagreement over a property, saying the wife later rescinded her decision following intervention by her in-laws.

According to him, “I was already processing withdrawal of the suit in court when the suspect attacked me, accusing me that I was dating his wife.

“The wife asked me to prepare a divorce paper because her husband lied to her about the case (of a sold property). I prepared the divorce papers and later she came back to me that she was not interested anymore because her husband’s family had begged her to forgive her husband.

“I told her that I would tell the judge on the next day of adjournment. On that Sunday evening, I was going to my sister’s naming ceremony when I saw the suspect and he said he had been looking for me because I prepared a divorce paper for his wife.

“He said to me, ‘You are dating my wife, that is why you want to prepare a divorce letter for us’ and I explained to him that his wife had told me that she was no longer interested in the divorce case and we were going to withdraw the case at the next day of adjournment.

“He just rushed at me and bit me in my jaw, brought out a broken bottle, and started stabbing me. The only thing I did was to guard myself so that he would not stab me on my neck and other delicate parts of my body.”

However, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said the matter was not reported at any police station when LEADERSHIP sought her response.

The Ondo State police spokesperson said, “I have contacted the DPOs in Ondo town, they said no such case was reported at the police station.”
