Kano State Police Command has said the police authorities have acted on the murder case involving the House of Representatives majority leader Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa.
The lawmaker is alleged to have killed some New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) members in Tudun Wada local government area of the state during the February 25, 2023, presidential/National Assembly elections.

Police spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa made the remarks yesterday. He said the call by the national chairman of NNPP, Professor Rufai Alkali, on the police to immediately prosecute Doguwa was belated as the police have handed the case file over to the state counsel.
The police dismissed accusations of inaction by Alkali in handling the case, insisting that the case is now with the State Counsel’s not with them.

Alkali had accused the police of not doing enough to bring Doguwa to justice over the alleged crime.

Alkali regretted that the lawmaker who was allegedly seen on a viral video with a shotgun, shooting at NNPP supporters and instigating attacks on the party’s facility in the state, “is still walking the street as a free man.”

He said while relevant authorities are reportedly still investigating the incident, the Nigeria Police is carrying on its activities as if “human lives don’t matter anymore in the country.”
Kiyawa stressed that “After legal advice, the case has already been charged to Court, and the case file was also handed over to them. “
The police image maker revealed that “Those of you in Kano are much aware of the case and the happenings in the court. The case is no longer with the Police. The State Counsel has taken over the prosecution from the police.”
