A French court has sentenced two men to prison for their roles in a violent burglary at the Paris home of Manchester City and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, during which the footballer was assaulted and his pregnant partner was choked with a cable.
Ilyas Kherbouch, 21, described by prosecutors as the mastermind of the robbery, was sentenced by the Paris Criminal Court to nine years in prison and fined €80,000.
Co-defendant Moktar D. was handed a five-year sentence, with two years suspended, and will also serve a period under probation.
A third defendant, Khyan M., was acquitted after prosecutors alleged that he had helped orchestrate the robbery while in prison.
The attack took place at Donnarumma’s Paris residence in July 2025, when a group of intruders broke into the property and confronted the goalkeeper and his then-fiancée, Alessia Elefante.
Donnarumma, now 27, was violently assaulted during the raid, while Elefante was choked with a cable.
The incident had devastating consequences for the couple. Elefante, who was pregnant at the time, later suffered a miscarriage which was attributed to the trauma of the attack.
The court proceedings shed further light on the seriousness of the robbery and the violence inflicted on the couple.
Prosecutors had sought prison terms ranging from four to 10 years for those accused of involvement.
They had requested the maximum 10-year sentence for Kherbouch, also known as “Ganito”, whom they identified as the principal organiser of the operation.
Kherbouch had also attracted attention after escaping from Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis in March.
Prosecutors had sought nine years for Khyan M., 22, known as “Kiki”, and six years for Moktar D.
However, the court acquitted Khyan M., while imposing substantial prison terms on Kherbouch and Moktar D.
The case adds to the growing security concerns surrounding high-profile footballers in France, particularly those living in the Paris region.
For Donnarumma and Elefante, the convictions bring a legal conclusion to a traumatic episode that turned what should have been the safety of their home into the scene of a violent attack.
