Don’t Trivialise US Security Assistance Offer – Evangelism Ministry

The All Nations Evangelism Ministry (ANEM) has warned the Federal Government against trivialising the offer by the American Government to assist Nigeria out of the current security situation, which has bedevilled the country for over two decades.

ANEM also throws its weight behind President Donald Trump’s decision to place Nigeria under “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), insisting that the attacks, killings and kidnappings in Nigeria, particularly in Benue State, are genocidally inclined.

The communique described America’s decision as a positive development for Nigeria, especially at this stage and in the face of flagrant human rights abuses, violent crimes and general insecurity.

It considers as very disturbing the conflicting views of the Church on the issue of genocide in Nigeria, particularly in relation to the on going violence in the North Central, North- East and the North – West lamenting the disappointing level of disunity and politics experienced in the Nigerian church at a time the church should be united, noting that such division should not be allowed to override the interest of the body of Christ.

ANEM affirmed in unequivocal terms that there is genocide against Christians in Nigeria and called on the United States under the leadership of President Donald Trump to collaborate with the Nigerian Government to as a matter of urgent address the situation adequately.

The communique frowned at the Northern Governors Forum’s recent initiative to pursue a regional arrangement to combat terrorism by contributing N1b, arguing that the idea might appear lofty and promising, but may face challenges at the implementation stage; therefore, it should be carefully scrutinised and examined.

Synod joined Northern Christians and other well-meaning Nigerians in commending President Bola Tinubu over the recent appointment of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. General Christopher Musa (Rtd), as the Defence Minister, expressing optimism that his assumption of duty would strengthen defence operations in the Nation and pursue reforms aimed at improving national security.

The communique, however, called on Government at all levels to beef up security to protect lives and property across the nation as the Country approaches festive periods, advising security agencies to ensure that the environment is secured for the celebrations.

Recalled that the US president, Donald Trump, a few weeks ago declared Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern, alleging religious genocide in the country, with a threat to the Nigerian government of possible military invasion to chase out terrorists if it fails to live up to expectations.

The Catholic bishop of Makurdi diocese, Most Rev Wilfred Anagbe, had addressed the U.S. Congress twice in 2025 regarding the persecution of Christians and security crises in Nigeria.

In his address, the Catholic bishop called for the U.S. to take concrete action.

The Tor Tiv, HRM, James Ayatse, also took the same path during the visit of President Bola Tinubu to the state at the height of the Yelwata attack, where about 200 people were killed.

The Tor Tiv described the crisis in the state as nothing but ‘genocide’.

But in a contradictory statement, Governor Hyacinth Alia, during a consultative forum on protecting the rights of Internally Displaced Persons and Forcibly Displaced Persons, organised by the National Human Rights Commission in Abuja, recently said that there was neither genocide nor religious killing in Benue state.

He maintained, “I am a Reverend Father, so being in governance does not take that away from me. In my state of Benue, we do not have any religious, ethnic, racial, national or state genocide, nothing of such in my State”

When asked to find out the purpose of the US delegation’s visit to the Governor, the Chief Press Secretary to Kula Terso stated that he was informed the visit was private.
