First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has paid glowing tribute to the late Dr Doyin Abiola, describing her as a trailblazer whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of journalists and women in public service.
In a heartfelt condolence message issued on Thursday, the first lady extended her sympathies to the children, grandchildren, family, media community, friends, colleagues, and associates of the late media icon.
“Dr Doyin Abiola’s contributions to the growth of journalism and the media industry in Nigeria are worthy of note,” Senator Tinubu stated. “She carved a path of excellence and courage for many Nigerian women in media and public service.”
Recalling the life and impact of the late Abiola, who made history as the first female editor-in-chief of a Nigerian daily newspaper, the first lady hailed her commitment to professionalism and her belief in the power of the written word.
“Her legacy of professionalism will continue to inspire all who believe in the power of the written word and the vital role of the press in nation-building,” she said.
Senator Tinubu expressed hope that Dr Abiola’s life and achievements would serve as a beacon to younger generations, particularly women, who seek to make a meaningful impact in society.
She offered prayers for the repose of her soul and comfort for her family and loved ones in this time of great loss.
“May Almighty God grant her eternal rest and comfort her family and friends on this irreplaceable loss. Goodnight, Auntie Doyin. May her soul rest in peace,” the message concluded.
