The Acting Governor of Kaduna state, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, has been applauded for being a role model and an inspiration for women in both the state and country at large.

The Director of Centre for Gender Studies, Kaduna State University (KASU), Professor Hauwa Evelyn Yusuf, gave this commendation while presenting an award to Dr Balarabe in her office at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.

Professor Yusuf who described the Acting Governor as “a woman of courage and character”, commended her for supporting the centre in hosting the first Award ceremony and Dinner held in June 2022.

The Director disclosed that the dinner was held to honour students who have distinguished themselves in making contributions to students’ welfare, adding that two of them, Chiamaka Duru and Chidera Duru, taught them soft and entrepreneurship skills.

The Acting Governor presented the awards of Outstanding Leadership and Contributions to the Welfare of KASU students on behalf of the centre, and charged them keep up the good work.

Prof Yusuf disclosed that the Centre for Gender Studies ‘’ is responsible for mainstreaming gender and also conducting programmes that are promoting gender studies and development.”

Chiamaka Mirah Duru, a Department of Economics student and one of the Conveners of First KASU Gender Capacity Building Conference and KASU First Grand Dinner and Award, spoke on behalf of the awardees.

According to her, they helped students to develop various soft skills, how to write their Curriculum Vitae and also provided them with entrepreneurship skills.

“For those who have existing businesses but don’t have the formal skills on how to manage them and make more profit, we tried to teach them basic things to sustain those businesses.

“And for those who don’t have side hustles or businesses to support themselves, we tried to equip them with those skills to be able to open up their own businesses,’’ she added.
