There was a mild drama on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday when two female members of the House exchanged words over President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The lawmakers – Hon. Marie Ebikake (PDP, Bayelsa) and Hon. Blessing Amadi (PDP, Rivers), engaged in a shouting match on the constitutionality or otherwise of the President’s decision before the commencement of plenary.
Other members were also seen hitting tables, saying nothing would happen while other members appeared prepared for a fight over the issue.
Some lawmakers were seen in their groups discussing the issue ahead of the commencement of the day’s plenary.
LEADERSHIP reports that Tinubu had on Tuesday night declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, thereby suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Ordu, and the State House of Assembly, for an initial period of six months.
In their place, Tinubu appointed a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-ette Ibas, as the Sole Administrator of the State.
