As Christians mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a former governor of Ekiti State and former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has appealed to Nigerians to draw inspiration from the core values of Easter to navigate the country’s current socio-economic and security challenges.

In an Easter message released by the Fayemi Media Office on Saturday, he extended warm greetings to the Christian faithful, noting that the season offers an opportunity for reflection on the essence of Christianity and its relevance to the Nigerian situation.

He said, “Easter is more than a religious ritual. It is a powerful story of triumph over despair and life over death.

“At a time when our nation is grappling with significant economic and security concerns, the story of Easter serves as a reminder that no situation is too bleak to be redeemed, and no challenge is too great to be overcome through unity and faith,” he said.

Addressing the prevailing hardships in the country, the former governor urged citizens to “keep hope alive,” emphasising that the current difficulties are the “travails that precede a new birth.”

Fayemi noted that the resilience of the Nigerian spirit has always been the country’s greatest asset in times of adversity.

“I understand the burdens many families are carrying today due to the rising cost of living and insecurity,” he said.

“However, just as the sacrifice of the cross led to the joy of the resurrection, our collective sacrifices and steadfastness in the face of these challenges will eventually lead us to a more stable and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

Fayemi further charged Christians and all Nigerians to emulate the selflessness of Christ by looking out for the “vulnerable and the sick” within their communities, explaining that this spirit defines the season.

“As we celebrate, let us reflect on how we can contribute to the peace and progress of our fatherland. Let us learn the values of tolerance, empathy, and service to others. By doing so, we ensure that the hope we celebrate today remains a living reality for every Nigerian,” he added.

Fayemi wished all Christians a peaceful and joy-filled Easter celebration, praying for the continued protection and restoration of the nation.
