Content creator and media personality Drea has opened up about the academic culture shock she experienced after relocating from the United States to Nigeria at the age of five.
Speaking during a recent interview, Drea revealed that one of the biggest adjustments was Nigeria’s demanding school curriculum, which required her to study far more subjects than she was used to.
“In seventh grade in New York, I had seven subjects. In Nigeria, I had 15 subjects. Imagine being 11 or 12 years old and taking 15 subjects,” she said.
Her comments have since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians reminiscing about their own school experiences and agreeing that the country’s curriculum is often packed with numerous subjects.
Others noted that while the workload can be intense, it exposes students to a broad range of knowledge from an early age.
Drea’s remarks have reignited the long-running debate over whether Nigeria’s education system equips students with a well-rounded academic foundation or places unnecessary pressure on young learners.
