Staff of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) have threatened industrial action over the appointment of an operations deputy director.
The staff who spoke through a rights advancement activist, Istifanus Kenneth, said they were set to protest the decision of the director who appointed a non-career and non-technical assistant director as acting deputy director of operations against popular opposition by many staff.
The staff had through stakeholders petitioned the FCT Minister, Musa Muhammad Bello.
They are urging the FCT minister to intervene for law and order not to be broken.
They said it had been the standard practice for a technical staff who is an engineer or of mechanical background to head the operations department.
Kenneth said; “The Permanent secretary must quickly advise the minister to correct this mistake. The director himself was recently deployed from the FCTA security services department.
“The type of operational head determines the mode of operation on the road, the reason why many casuals are on the road doing the VIO job.
“The FCT minister must intervene for the image of the directorate to be redeemed. There have been reported cases of uncivilised manners of operations on the part of some casuals wearing the DRTS operation.
“The imposed acting operations deputy director has been alleged to be aiding the use of casuals who are untrained and are constituting a menace to the smooth operations of the directorate,” he added.
