DSS Arrests Ex-BBC Editor Adejuwon Soyinka At Lagos Airport

The Department of State Security (DSS), on Sunday, arrested the founding Editor of BBC Pidgin Service, Adejuwon Soyinka, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Soyinka who is the Regional Editor for West Africa at The Conversation Africa was reportedly detained at MMIA in Lagos around 5:40a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly after arriving in Nigeria on a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.

It was, however, gathered that attempts to contact Soyinka have been unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his phone have gone unanswered.

A report shared with journalists by a close friend of Soyinka (who requested anonymity) stated, “Adejuwon Soyinka was detained by officers of the Department of State Services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

“The incident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly after he arrived in Nigeria via a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.
