Rector of the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, has said the introduction of e-result computation in the institution has curbed results falsification, fraudulent practices and time wasting in processing results after examinations.

The rector, who stated this in his office during an interactive session with members of the correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kogi State council, noted that the process has also put to rest the issue of results forgery in the institution.

“Today, with the introduction of e-results, students now get their results as quickly as possible. We have also been able to eliminate fraudulent practices in the computation of results, including falsification of results.”

According to the rector, the courageous and audacious zero tolerance for unethical and sharp practices such as extortion and imposition of textbooks on students as a basis for passing examinations, among others, have yielded positive results in the management’s drive to make the Polytechnic a center of academic excellence.

While speaking further on other achievements of his administration, Ogbo said, the introduction of Computer Based Test (CBT) for the conduct of the General Studies and other examinations with large classes has curbed unethical practices and ensured prompt release of results.

He said that to ensure the integrity of Polytechnic certificates, the institution embarked on providing a new statement of result template with additional security features to guide against falsification of results.

According to the rector, other achievements include “the Successful accreditation and re-accreditation of 47 Programmes by the National Board for Technical Education, including the backlogs of some dated as far back as 2009.

“Establishment and accreditation of the School of Agricultural Technology at Itakpe with four (4) programmes; namely Agricultural Technology, Animal Health and Production Technology, Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Technology, and Horticulture and Landscape Technology;

“Establishment and successful Resource Inspection of Mass Communication, Clothing and Textile Technology and Printing Technology programmes at the ND level.

“Establishment and successful Resource Inspection of HND Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing Option), Building Technology, Architectural Technology and Surveying and Geo-Informatics;

“Follow up and eventual signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) for collaboration, smooth take off and eventual accreditation of the Departments of Mechatronics Engineering Technology at the School of Engineering, Itakpe;

In addition to enhancing the quality of learning in the institution, Prof. Ogbo noted that his administration has been able to restore sanity in the institution, rid the campus of cult-related activities, and ensure the security of students’ lives and property, particularly by introducing CCTV cameras for 24-hour monitoring of the two campuses of the Polytechnic.

On the welfare of staff, Ogbo noted with pride the payment of inherited allowances to deserving members of staff, payment of earned academic allowance to deserving members of staff up to the 2022/2023 academic session and payment of evening class allowance for staff in the School of Management Studies.

Others he said includes: Prompt promotion of qualified members of staff on annual basis up to 2023 while the 2024 is ready for Council approval, implementation and cash backing of staff promotion from 2014 to 2020, recruitment of new staff to reduce workload on staff across the Departments and repositioning, effective take-off of the Polytechnic Staff School after a long period of ‘motion without movement’ and prompt release of results and mobilization for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Programme.
