The journey to excelling in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) begins long before the examination day.

One of the first critical steps is creating your UTME profile. This process is essential for every candidate, as it sets the foundation for your registration, examination scheduling, and result retrieval.

By taking the time to create your profile early, you not only avoid last-minute rushes but also ensure you’re fully prepared to tackle every phase of the examination process.

As the 2025 UTME approaches, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is urging prospective candidates to begin creating their profiles early, ahead of the official registration date.

This early preparation is crucial for a smooth and efficient registration process, allowing candidates to avoid the delays that often occur with last-minute registrations.

JAMB has emphasised that early profile creation is a key step in streamlining the entire registration procedure.

By completing their profiles in advance, candidates will be better positioned to tackle the registration process without unnecessary challenges as the exam date nears.

The proactive approach not only saves valuable time but also reduces the risk of registration bottlenecks, ensuring a more stress-free experience for candidates.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, reiterated the board’s commitment to ensuring an exceptional UTME experience in 2025.

In a statement released via its weekly bulletin, he explained that the board’s strategic focus aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve the quality of education in the country.

“In line with this commitment, JAMB has implemented comprehensive measures to provide candidates and stakeholders with a seamless registration and examination experience,” he said.

He also stated that the board had thoroughly reviewed all processes related to the conduct of the 2024 UTME, from the generation of sufficient examination materials for the CBT exercise to the accreditation of exam centres and the registration procedures.

Benjamin added, “The insights gained from the 2024 review have been integrated into the meticulous planning for the 2025 UTME. Consequently, the board has put in place robust measures to prevent the recurrence of the few challenges faced in 2024.”

As part of these measures, JAMB has successfully generated a satisfactory pool of examination items, completed the accreditation of centres, and confirmed that registration will officially commence in January 2025.

With these improvements in place, Benjamin expressed confidence that the 2025 UTME will offer a more streamlined and effective examination experience for candidates.

To facilitate this process, prospective candidates are encouraged to create their profiles early by sending a text message with their NIN (National Identification Number) to 55019. This simple step will ensure that they are prepared for a smooth registration when the official process begins.

In addition to early profile creation, JAMB also issued a strong warning about the potential issues related to the use of henna (also known as “Laali” or “Lale”) on the fingers, especially with regards to biometric verification.

Benjamin also explained that the application of henna can obstruct biometric verification, which is essential for successful registration and examination entry.

He further cautioned that candidates attempting to remove henna with harsh chemicals risk damaging the whorls on their fingers, making biometric verification difficult or even impossible.

“Candidates are advised to protect their ten fingers for both the registration and examination processes. Successful biometric verification is mandatory for entry into the examination hall, and without it, candidates will be unable to access the exam questions,” he stressed.

He reminded candidates to avoid applying henna to ensure a smooth and efficient registration experience. This, along with early profile creation, will help guarantee a successful and stress-free journey through the 2025 UTME process.
